Welcome to Davidson
Located 25 miles north of Uptown Charlotte, N.C., the Town of Davidson lies along the eastern shore of Lake Norman and offers beautiful lake views and open green spaces in a college town setting right off Interstate 77, only minutes from Uptown Charlotte, North Carolina and Charlotte-Douglas International Airport. The town was founded by Presbyterians in 1837 with the establishment of Davidson College and named for Brigadier General William Lee Davidson, a Mecklenburg County Revolutionary War hero. The land for Davidson College came from Davidson’s estate.

Davidson College is a nationally recognized and highly selective liberal arts college with students from almost every state in the nation and many foreign countries. Among many accolades, the college’s basketball team advanced to the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament in 2008 and won their third straight Southern Conference Tournament Championship.
Residents and visitors also enjoy the 100-acre Davidson College Arboretum, located across the college’s main campus.

A business-friendly community, the Town of Davidson is home to high-tech global companies like Ingersoll Rand Co., a $17 billion globally diversified company with a 100-year legacy.
Ingersoll Rand Co. provides products, services and solutions to transport and protect food and perishables, secure homes and commercial properties, and enhance industrial productivity and efficiency. A few of the company’s brands include Trane, Monarch, Steelcraft, Interflex, GHH-Rand, CISA, Briton, and American Standard Heating and Air Conditioning. The company occupies an expansive complex right on Lake Davidson. In addition to its Davidson, North Carolina facility, Ingersoll Rand Co. operates 28 additional plants in the United States, 31 plants in Europe, 14 plants in Asia, six plants in Latin America, and one plant in Canada.
Davidson welcomed MSC Industrial's co-headquarters in August 2013. MSC's lake front office building is home to just under 500 employees.
Davidson offers a variety of mixed-use office and retail opportunities at Harbour Place, South Main Square, Davidson Commons, and Davidson Gateway. Harbour Place is a premier mixed-use office park located off I-77 at Exit 30, one mile from Davidson College and historic downtown. The Town of Davidson offers residents and visitors a mix of unique shops and restaurants with beautiful flowers, wide sidewalks and recreational space. The town green is used for pick-up football games, festivals, croquet matches, and outdoor concerts. Since Davidson is a town that prides itself on connectivity, the town is designed with pedestrians and bike riders in mind. Miles of greenways and walking trails connect neighborhoods, providing everyone with alternate ways to get around town and access nature.
Davidson, North Carolina believes in open space and over the last five years, purchased almost 500 acres of land. Presented the 2004 Smart Growth Award winner for Overall Excellence in town planning and design, the Town of Davidson follows new urbanist principles of design. By requiring that 12.5 percent of all new development is affordable to all types of home buyers and citizens, the town practices diverse development.
