How Summit Coffee plans to reach new heights with franchise plan
Summit Coffee Co. has big growth plans and isn’t letting the Covid-19 pandemic get in the way.
The boutique coffeehouse, which roasts its own organic coffee beans in Cornelius, now has three locations — the original that opened in Davidson in 1998, another on the Davidson College campus that opened in 2013 and an Asheville shop that opened in 2017. An additional shop in Charlotte's NoDa neighborhood is under construction and expected to open in September.
Now CEO and co-owner Brian Helfrich is looking at franchising for Summit to reach new heights. The company’s goal is to open 65 franchise locations by 2025, with 12 opening every year.
“Franchises have better infrastructure, better supply chains, better training,” Helfrich said. “We’ve basically taken all the lumps and made all the mistakes over the last 20 years so that we can prevent our franchise partners from doing so now.”
