Northwestern Mutual eyes growth in Lake Norman area with new office
Northwestern Mutual is eyeing growth opportunities in the Lake Norman area as it capitalizes on the booming community.
The financial-planning firm opened a 13,000-square-foot office near Northcross Shopping Center in Huntersville in January, replacing its former office off of W.T. Harris Boulevard. That lease ended last October. The firm leased temporary space in Cornelius before moving into the new office, said Lynn Bowser, managing director of the Lake Norman office.
Milwaukee-based Northwestern Mutual has had a presence north of Charlotte for years. Bowser, who joined the firm in 2014, started her current role in early 2019. She is one of six female managing directors across the company. Bowser decided to move the office because she saw the strong growth happening around Lake Norman and knew that could also help the company grow. She said Northwestern Mutual wants to play an active role in that area.
"I just think it's important that we're serving the community," Bowser said. "I want people to know that they are worthy of understanding their finances, that they are capable of understanding their finances and that everybody deserves a plan."
There are about 20 advisers at the Lake Norman office. Its goal is to recruit 10 to 12 new advisers per year. Most new hires do not come from financial advising backgrounds. Bowser, for example, was a concert pianist. She said the firm has in-depth training, with staff to support new advisers for their first two years. Advisers can pull from nationwide resources and work with more senior employees.
